Table Top Exercises

We specialise in the creation and delivery of table top exercises that test your organisational resilience and the interoperability of your multi-agency event management plans against a set of realistic structured situations and scenarios.

Every event is different and has its own unique set of challenges. The different demographics of each audience, the uniqueness of each venue, the unpredictability of the weather, changes in the political landscape, the ever growing threat of terrorism, the risks of structural collapse, a complete IT failure, or a power outage can have significant impacts on your event.

Contingency Planning

Contingency plans are a risk management tool that are created to run alongside event management plans. They provide the event organiser or safety officer with a number of options and considerations to utilise in the event of sudden changes in circumstances that could lead to catastrophic consequences for the event.

Risks that could cause significant impact on your event should be considered and appropriate contingency plans created to mitigate the impact of that threat. Plan B.

Such risks could include adverse weather conditions, sudden loss of IT or power, outside incidents that impact on your traffic management plan, structural failure, outbreak of fire, or the threat of terrorism.

The current UK Threat Level is ‘severe’, meaning that a terrorist attack is highly likely. The advice of the UK Government is for the public to be ‘alert but not alarmed’. With the tragic events across Europe in recent times it is only appropriate for event organisers to have contingency plans in place for a range of incidents including the threat of terrorism.

Event Safety Solutions are experienced in reviewing current event management plans against a range of potential threats and risks, and creating a range of pragmatic contingency plans that are appropriate and realistic for event organisers’ requirements.

Structured Debriefing

Debriefing should be an integral part of any organisation’s processes and should be embedded into organisational learning and development. The process enables improvements to be identified in the way an organisation operates, and allows for the continuous development of its processes, structures and procedures.

The structured review of an event, or the structured debriefing of a critical incident by an independent body enables participants to openly discuss organisational systems, procedures and processes to identify organisational learning and thereby creating good practice for the future. Debriefing of incidents should not involve the pointing of fingers or positioning of blame, instead it should be considered a constructive process for learning and development. For this reason, it is recommended that structured debriefing of events should be conducted by experienced and qualified structured debriefing facilitators.

Event Safety Solutions Ltd have qualified and experienced structured debriefing facilitators with experience of debriefing critical and major incidents, who will conduct an independent review of your event or incident. Expert Witness Services

To be an expert witness, you need to be recognised as an expert in your field. This may seem obvious, but in law an ‘expert’ is not the same as an ‘expert witness’.

An expert offers special expertise in a particular field. As an expert witness however, that expert needs to offer additional skills and abilities such as the analysis of information, appropriate courtroom presentation skills, correct presentation of legal reports and the understanding of the rules for expert witness evidence.

When in court, the expert witness methodically presents evidence of opinion based on evidence of fact. Any report submitted by an expert witness must be written in compliance with specific legal guidelines and timescales.

Drones

The use of unmanned aircraft (drones) has become a popular hobby for many and a commercial enterprise for a few. However, drones can represent a significant risk to the public, and as such there is legislation in place to ensure public safety is maintained through the Civil Aviation Authority. This places an onus on the operator of a drone to maintain control of their craft at all times, and to be in possession of appropriate licenses and insurance to fly where necessary.

The use of drones can provide an excellent benefit for event organisers in surveying sites for planning events, observing activities and flow rates, searching large open areas and for the filming and security monitoring of venues.

Drones at crowded places represent a significant hazard, and for that reason there is a restriction that no drone can fly within 150 meters without specific permissions and licenses from the Civil Aviation Authority.

Event organisers, local authorities and emergency services are often unsure of how to deal with the unauthorised use of drones at events and the powers and practical solutions available to deal with such matters.
